S4E16: End of Year Wrap-Up: Holiday Concert Edition

Today’s episode is a quick end of year wrap-up of 2021, and what a year it’s been! We’ve got info on some upcoming events for IOCSF and the Golden Gate Men’s Chorus, so listen in for more details on live (and live streaming!) concerts coming your way this month.

And now a word from our hosts!

Episode Transcript

Zane: Hey everyone, today is Wednesday, December 8th, 2021, and this episode of In Unison is going to be the final episode of 2021. I can’t believe it’s been a year since we started recording interviews for this podcast. Giacomo and I are so grateful to all of our listeners who have helped sustain the show—we’ve had an amazing time connecting our choral community, and we’re so glad you’ve come along for the ride. So, Giacomo, the holidays are here...

Giacomo: That’s right! And as we all know, the holiday season brings choral concerts! If you’ve been listening to the last nine episodes, you know that IOCSF gave its first live concert in two years just last week on December 4th in Berkeley. The show was a smashing success and it was awesome to see so many enthusiastic choral music lovers in our audience.

Zane: And we even had four of the composers in the house!

Giacomo: Yes we did. Well, if you missed the concert last weekend, don’t fret, we’re going to do it again on Saturday, December 18th in San Francisco. Details for that concert can be found at iocsf.org/events. And if you’re not in the area, or are unable to attend in person, we’ll also be live-streaming the concert via the IOCSF Facebook page. Just head over to Facebook and search for the International Orange Chorale of San Francisco—we should pop right up.

Zane: Giacomo, aren’t you singing in another concert series too?

Giacomo: Yes I am! The Golden Gate Men’s Chorus is actually right in the middle of our holiday concert series, and it’s not too late to get tickets to see the show. We have a performance on Saturday, December 11th at 3pm, TWO performances on Sunday the 12th at 3pm and 7pm, and our final performance is on Tuesday, December 14th at 8pm. Info and tickets for those shows can be found at ggmc.org.

Zane: Are you guys going to stream the concert too?

Giacomo: Yup. On Sunday, December 19th at 5pm pacific standard time. Info about that can also be found on the GGMC website at ggmc.org/livestream

Zane: Awesome. Well, I hope the concerts go well!

Giacomo: Thanks!

Zane: So, as I mentioned earlier, this is going to be our final episode of 2021. But don’t worry, we’ll be back. We’re just going to take a little time over the holidays to rest, recharge, and put together some exciting new content for y’all in 2022!

Giacomo: Can we give them a teaser?

Zane: Uh, sure… The first thing we’re planning to do is a whole series of episodes focused on ensembles and new albums. We’ve got some groups in South America we’re chatting with, as well as here in the states of course. And I’m sure we’ll find a few further abroad as well, including in the Philippines I think... If anyone listening to this has a group or album in mind that they think we shouldn’t miss, please drop us a line at ideas@inunisonpodcast.com. We’d love to hear from you!

Giacomo: For sure. In fact, we want this podcast to be a resource for the choral community at large, so we welcome any and all suggestions from our listeners.

Zane: I can’t believe we’ve never received an email from a listener…

Giacomo: Right?! I mean, there’s gotta be at least one Chorus Dolores out there who wants to...err...needs to have their voice heard…! [both laugh]

Zane: Alright. Well, 2021 didn’t quite turn out to be the 180-degree turnaround from 2020 that we were hoping for, but hey, we did get back to in-person music-making, and you know what? It feels damn good!

Giacomo: Yes it does.

Zane: Again, we want to thank all of you for listening and supporting the podcast, and we’re so excited for 2022, and beyond...

Giacomo: [creating an echo effect] Beyond, beyond, beyond, beyond…

Zane: We hope your holidays are filled with love and community...

Giacomo: And singing!

Zane: Indeed. Well, until next year, this is…

Both: In Unison!
